I had a 3.4 GPA, 1200 sat, and was very active in my HS community as a cheerleader, first chair vilolinist in orchestra for four years, student council and class officer for two. But after looking at all the college admissions data, and after being in college for 2.5 years, I believe that a strong academic record alone will get you into the school of your choice.

GMU is much more difficult to get into nowJan 06 2006Political Science
GMU is much more difficult to get into now than it was when I applied. The application is not difficult and neither is the personal statement (I think it's only 100 words), but if you're cruising through senior year with a 2.5GPA and 1050 SAT, you're unlikely to get in.
Definitely visit the campus first and the surrounding area. I grew up here so I'm used to the busy suburbs of DC--not everyone likes it so much.

I got in with a 3.7 HS GPA and 1320 on SATs. Write a great essay about diversity- GMU has the most diverse student population in the US!

Do a few activities in high school and make sure you GPA is around a 3.0.

My high school GPA was on the high end, and I was active in my school literary magazine. If other students want to get in be an active part of your high school, but don't just do things b/c you think they'll get you into college. That mind-set usually backfires. Be who you are and show your talents, don't kiss up to Universities, if you find yourself doing too much of that you probably wouldn't want to be there. Also just a side note, more and more these days where you study for your B.A/B.S doesn't matter so much, but where you go for your graduate work does. So don't bury yourself in loans needlessly.
